Nigeria records 7,784 diphtheria cases in 170 LGs

A case of Diphtheria Infection 11th September 2024 By Lara Adejoro The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has recorded about 12,085 suspected cases of diphtheria infections as of September 11, 2024. The NCDC, however, said that out of the suspected cases, 7,784 were confirmed in 170 local government areas across 21 states. The centre announced this at a press briefing on Wednesday in Abuja. It said the death toll is 309 with a case fatality rate of 3.9 per cent from Kano (169), Bauchi (59), Katsina (52), Borno (19), Yobe (four); Edo (two); Jigawa (two); FCT (one); and Nasarawa (one).

NAFDAC warns of substandard antimalaria, antibiotics in circulation

By Godwin Isenyo The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has raised the alarm over the circulation of substandard and falsified medicines in Nigeria, posing a significant threat to public health. “We are maximising efforts to curb the menace of substandard and falsified medicines in the state,” warned Bala Mshelia, Director of NAFDAC’s North West Zone, at a community sensitisation workshop in Kaduna on Friday.
